Which takes precedence - people or achievements (essay)
There are few factors which are totally important and life-defending for the direction we take along the paths of our lives.
It is my strong conviction that good and clear relationships with the people around us connected with a stable and satisfying career are the essence which leads us to higher and higher positions in social and spiritual hierarchy. Therefore (I think that) neither leaving ourselves to the flow of life by devoting our time only to feelings and relationships, nor ignoring them at all and concentrating on the achievements, can give us the right direction.
Imagine the following situation: a family in which the child is almost all the time left on his own, because his parents are utterly committed to their jobs. It’s sad but this child grows up in an environment of insufficient love and cares and this reflects on his personality and behavior in the future. That’s why people who don’t pay enough attention to their close friends and relatives and spend their time developing their careers influence and even insult them.
But the worst is still to come when those workaholics get old. That’s the moment when they realize what they have caused to themselves. Because they are doomed to spend the rest of their lives without the care of their families.
On the other hand, a person who goes with the flow and doesn’t thrive in life seems rather unserious., because developing only relationships won’t substitute (the lack of) a define aim which is the flavour of life.
To sum up, finding the moderate, or as we say – the happy medium mean between people and achievements is crucial. But for that purpose we should first understand what we want to get from life.
